What the check looks at
Our server fetches your home page the way a browser would, then reads it. It measures how long the page took to arrive and how much it weighs, counts the images, scripts and stylesheets, and looks for the settings that make a site fast, secure and easy for Google and for people to use. Then, if you let it, it asks Google PageSpeed Insights for its own scores.
Security
HTTPS and the redirect to it, mixed content, the protective headers browsers look for, and whether software versions are on show.
Search and mobile
Title, description, headings, mobile viewport, canonical address, robots.txt, sitemap, social previews and structured data.
Accessibility
Alt text on images, labels on form fields, heading order, descriptive links, language and landmarks.
Common questions
How do I check if my website is secure?
Type your address into the free check above. It looks at the things browsers and Google care about: whether the site uses HTTPS and redirects to it, whether any part of the page still loads insecurely, and whether the protective headers that stop common attacks are in place. Each result is explained in plain English.
Why is my website so slow?
Usually one of four things: a slow server response, oversized images, too many separate files, or no caching. The check measures each and tells you which is the problem. Oversized photos are the most common cause and the easiest to fix.
How fast should a website load?
The page should arrive from the server in under half a second, and the main content should be visible within about two and a half seconds on a phone. Google measures the second figure as Largest Contentful Paint and uses it in ranking. The check reports both.
Is this a full website audit?
No. It is a quick, honest look at one page using measurements anyone could take, and it reports only what it measured. A full audit covers every page, the content, your analytics and the business behind the site. It is the right first step towards one.
Will the check affect my website?
No. It loads one page, exactly as one visitor would, and reads a handful of files. Nothing is changed and nothing is installed.
What happens to my results?
Reports are kept privately for a few weeks so the link keeps working, then deleted. We do not share them. If you ask for a quote we use them to give you an accurate price.
