Violet Pixels is a web design, hosting and software business based in Kent, England. This page explains what information this website collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is written in plain English on purpose. Last updated 12 September 2026 (analytics added).
What we collect and why
The quote form
When you ask for a quote we receive your name, email address, phone number if you give it, what you need and anything you write in the message box. We use these to reply to you and to prepare a quote. The legal basis is that you have asked us to. The message is sent to our email and kept in the site’s records so we can find it again if you come back to us later.
The free website check
When you check a website we record the address you typed, the results of the check, and the time. A copy of your internet address (IP address) is stored in scrambled form so that we can limit how many checks one person can run in ten minutes; the scrambling cannot be reversed to get the address back. Reports are kept for 90 days so that the link we give you keeps working, then deleted along with any screenshot. We are told by email when a check runs, so that we can follow up if you ask us to. If the Google PageSpeed layer is switched on, the address you checked is sent to Google to fetch its performance scores; Google’s own privacy policy covers what it does with that request. The check only looks at publicly available pages, and only at the address you give it.
Monthly re-checks by email
If you ask us to watch a site, we keep your email address and the site’s address, and only start sending once you have clicked the confirmation link we email you. Each month we run the check again and email you the result. Every email has a link that stops them immediately and deletes the record. Sign-ups that are never confirmed are deleted after two days.
Games and the 1996 switch
The site remembers which look you chose (1996 or 2026) and your best scores in the games. These are stored in your own browser using a feature called local storage, never sent to us, and you can clear them at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.
Server logs
Like every website, the server that hosts this one keeps standard access logs: the pages requested, the time, the internet address they came from and the browser used. They are used only to keep the site running and secure, and are deleted on a rolling basis by the hosting provider.
What we do not do
We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell, rent or share your details with anyone for marketing. The only third party on the site is Google Analytics, and only if you say yes to it.
Cookies
On your first visit a small card asks whether we may count your visit with Google Analytics. If you say yes, Google sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) that last up to two years and tell us which pages are read and roughly where visitors come from; Google’s own privacy policy covers what it does with that data. If you say no, or if your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, nothing from Google loads and no cookie is set. Your answer is remembered in your browser for a year and you can change it at any time from the “Cookies” link in the footer.
If you are a member of staff logging in to manage the site, WordPress sets cookies to keep you logged in and to remember your screen settings, as described in the WordPress documentation.
Who we share information with
Your details are handled by the companies that provide our email and web hosting, who process them on our behalf and under contract. Website check addresses may be sent to Google as described above. We will share information if the law requires it. That is the full list.
How long we keep things
- Quote enquiries: for as long as we are talking, and then for our accounts and records if you become a customer. If we never work together, we delete them within a year.
- Website check reports: 90 days.
- Monthly re-check subscriptions: until you unsubscribe.
- Rate-limit records: ten minutes.
- Server logs: as set by the hosting provider, typically a few weeks.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to how we use it. Email us and we will sort it out, normally within a few days and always within a month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
